History

Since incorporation in 1990, the City of Calimesa contracted with CalFire through the County of Riverside for fire services and ran a 2-person engine company.  The City has always provided Basic Life Support (BLS) service.

AMR, the regional ambulance service, also responds to all medical aid calls and has historically provided a paramedic and EMT; i.e. Advanced Life Support (ALS) service.

In November 2016, the City hired fire consultants to assist staff in analyzing potential in-house staffing models and related departmental set-up.

On January 1, 2018, the City of Calimesa Fire Department was established hiring a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, 3 Captains, 6 Firefighters and a pool of Intern/Reserve Firefighters.

Calimesa commenced service as a Basic Life Support (BLS) department and continued to run a one-engine company that was staffed with 4 persons at all times; i.e. 3 full-time career firefighters and an intern/reserve on all shifts.

AMR continues to respond providing a paramedic and EMT; i.e. Advanced Life Support (ALS) service.

The City of Calimesa Fire Department currently employs a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Battalion Chief, 3 Captains, 9 Firefighter/EMT’s and a pool of Intern/Reserve Firefighters and run two-engine companies staffed with 6 persons at all times; i.e. 4 full-time career firefighters and two intern/reserve on all shifts.
